How the Ski was Invented – a Romeo & Julia Story in the World of the Edda
The theme draws freely upon the story of the Edda where giant daughter Skade calls for having one of the Nordic Gods as her husband in return for them having killed her father Tjasse.
Oden agrees to this, on one condition: she must only see their feet when she will make her choice. Skade wants the handsome Balder – and assumes he has the most beautiful feet. But this is not the case. They turn out to belong to Njord, God of the sea.
Njord and Skade don´t really match, and their marriage ends in a row when Skade smashes their bed to pieces. She takes two of the wooden boards, puts them under her feet and returns to her home in Trymheim in the mountains – and by this, the ski is invented.
